Ejisu (Ash), June 17, GNA - The Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) of the Ejisu M/A Experimental Junior High School (JHS), has appealed to the Municipal Assembly to enact a bye-law, banning the operation of TV games in the area.

This it said, has become necessary to rein in the surge in gambling among school children in the municipality. The parents made the appeal at their general meeting held in the school on Wednesday.

They expressed worry about the growing incidence of truancy by the children especially, the boys, a development they said, was adversely affecting academic performance.

"They end up spending the money given to them for food during school hours on the games", the parents added. Additionally, some of them are turning into thieves and taking to hard drugs and alcoholism.

They commended Mr Kwabena Owusu Aduomi, Member of Parliament (MP) for Ejisu-Juaben, for building a computer laboratory for the school. The parents pledged to buy more computers for the school to enhance the teaching and learning of Information and Communication Technology (ICT). Mr P. J. K. Amuah, Chairman of the Municipal School Management Committees (SMCs), vowed to ensure that the appropriate authorities acted decisively to stop gambling and smoking among the school children. Mrs Gladys Edith Asante, Headmistress, welcomed the decision by the parents to support the teaching of ICT in the school. She asked them to spend more quality time with their children to prevent them from going wayward.
