Parents urged to give priority to the education of their children

Mr. Mahama Salaam, Executive Director of Center for Community and Maternal Health Empowerment (CMC) has called on parents to make the education of their children their priority.

He said with regret that most school children especially the girls, drop out of school because of lack of support from their parents that would enable them to sustain their interest in their education.

Mr. Salaam said this at a meeting with more than 2,000 girls from nine schools in Asutifi district of Brong Ahafo, who were also counseled by six girls from the area who had successfully completed second cycle and tertiary institutions with the assistance of Action Aid Ghana and partners.

The role model girls shared their experiences and challenges they encountered but with determination had been able to achieve their aims.

Mr. Salaam said the educational level of girls in the area was low because parents did not care about their children’s education, stressing that it was only education that could shape the children to become good future leaders.

He advised parents to use their resources judiciously and channel them into the education of their children.

Mr. Salaam advised the children to concentrate on their studies and always stick to their books to become great women in the society so they could be part of the decision-taking process on women.**
