Nsawam (E/R), June 30, GNA - The Akuapem South Municipal Director of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), Mr Clement Donkor, has urged parents to make the education of their children their major priority.
He called on parents to spend much of their earnings on their children's educational needs.
Mr Donkor made the call at a durbar of chiefs and people of Ashiresu-Yeboahkrom, near Nsawam, in the Eastern Region, after a two-hour cleanup exercise to mark the celebration of the NCCE educational week.
He said the development of the human resource was key for society advancement and therefore advised stakeholders to invest in that sector. He entreated the pupils to be disciplined and endeavour to show respect to their teachers and parents as well as, focusing seriously on their studies to become responsible adults in future.
Mr Emmanuel Kpatsi, Director of the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) for Akuapem South, cautioned parents that, they would not be spared by the commission, if they allow their children to loiter about during school hours or are engaged in child labour.
He said the commission was ever-ready to receive information on child neglect from both children and adults.
