Following a recall of Parliament by Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, The Minority Leader in Parliament, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, has stated that the Ghanaian people have clearly decided who constitutes the Majority and the Minority in Parliament.

According to him, it is unnecessary to engage in disputes over seating arrangements ahead of the swearing-in of the next Parliament.

He emphasised that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Members of Parliament are unbothered about where they sit until the transition is complete.

Dr Ato Forson further indicated that the NDC MPs will not support any government business that seeks to commit the next administration.

He said the focus of the Minority will remain on safeguarding the interests of Ghanaians, ensuring no decisions are taken that would unduly bind the incoming government.

In particular, Dr Forson stated that the NDC MPs will oppose the approval of new loans, mining lease agreements, and any other significant commitments.

He noted that such arrangements could have far-reaching implications for the country’s financial and resource stability, and, therefore, must be left to the discretion of the next government.

"We [The Minority] feel good because the issue of who is the majority and minority has been determined by the Ghanaian people. It is not up to us to fight over that in Parliament.

"Now it is obvious the NPP Majority has been reduced to 'nkoko kitikiti' (chicks). So, we will go ahead and work on the business of the day," he said.

The Minority Leader reiterated the NDC’s stance on prioritising accountability and transparency in the legislative process.

He called on the current government to act in the nation’s best interest by refraining from introducing policies or agreements that could constrain future administrations.

After the December 2024 polls, there have been security concerns across the country. Catch Etsey Atisu's interview with security analyst, Adib Saani, on Election Desk on GhanaWeb TV below:
