Parliament To Reconvene On October 21

Accra, ( Greater Accra Region) 15 Oct. Nine bills have been slated for enactment when the third meeting of parliament opens on October 21. According to the agenda released in Accra today, the bills include the Value-added Tax, Statute Law Revision, Statutory Instruments (Amendment), Ghana Highway Authority, Road Traffic (Amendment) and Energy Commission. The rest are Public Office Holders (Declaration of Assets and Disqualification), Legal Aid Scheme and Timber Resources Management Bills. Five instruments are also to receive parliament's attention They are: Public Elections (Unit Committee) Regulations, Court of Appeal (Civil Procedure) Rules, High Court (Civil Procedure) Rules, Immigration (Amendment) Regulations and Exchange Control (Amendment) Regulations. The agenda said five papers will be laid before the House. They are a buyer's credit facility for the financing of the Bawdie- Asankraguaa-Enchi road and a treaty between Ghana and Germany, concerning encouragement and reciprocal protection of investments. The rest are Environmental Protection annual reports for 1995 and 1996 and the report of the Auditor-General and Public Accounts for the year ended 31 December 1996. Also on the agenda are questions from members.
