Parliament enhancement project to be completed by December 2019

Work on the Parliament enhancement project is expected to be completed by December 2019 at a cost of Ghc 100 million.

The project, being constructed by China State Hualong Construction Ghana Ltd comprises Job 600 annex to provide additional offices for Members of Parliament, additional offices for staff, drivers and visitors lounge, printing room, media and marshal's offices.

This was made known today when the Parliamentary Service Board comprising the Speaker, the Majority and Minority leaders and the Clerk of Parliament among others, inspected the project.

Mr Bentsi Enchill Ekow Resident Engineer of the project and some senior workers of the construction firm accompanied the Parliamentary Service Board members for the inspection of the project.

The Speaker of Parliament Rt Hon Prof Michael Aaron Ocquaye expressed satisfaction about the pace of work on the project and the timely release of funds by government to finance the project.

The Speaker said the Parliamentary Service Board is taking steps towards engagement of an architect to design a new chamber block for Parliament.

Commenting on the project after the inspection tour, the Minority Leader Hon Haruna Iddrisu said the Minority caucus fully supports the initiative to enhance the physical infrastructure of Parliament aimed at strengthening Parliament to promote democratic governance.

The Majority Leader Hon Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu described the project as highly significant for the work of Parliament.
