Parliament has restricted physical access to the venue of the ministerial vetting proceedings, preventing individuals without accreditation from entering the area.

In a release dated January 22, 2025, the Parliament of Ghana stated that its decision to limit access was prompted by the increasing number of members of the public visiting without accreditation or an official invitation to witness the vetting proceedings.

It explained that the development had raised concerns about the safety and security of its members and staff.

Parliament puts premium on the security and safety of Members, staff, and the general public. In order to ensure the security and safety of Members, staff, and the general public, as well as enable the smooth operation of the Appointments Committee, Parliament has decided to limit physical access to the venue of proceedings.

“The general public is accordingly informed that, only persons with invitation cards or appropriate accreditation would be permitted to access the Committee room and the precincts of Parliament,” parts of the statement read.

The statement further cautioned against defying the new directive and encouraged the public, interested in following the proceedings, to take advantage of the media coverage available on television.

Parliament has granted access to a number of Media Houses to broadcast the proceedings live and, therefore, encourages the public to avail themselves of that opportunity to witness the proceedings of the Appointment Committee,” it added.
