Parliament mulls unveiling identity of all who tested positive for coronavirus

Majority Leader Osei Kyei-Mensa-Bonsu says all those who have been contacted by the medical team of Parliament after the coronavirus tests should stay away from activities of the House.

These persons, he listed, include Members, staff and even journalists.

Reading the business statement of the House, the Suame MP said the medical team may be forced to unveil the identity of all persons contacted to have tested positive of the virus.

“We don’t intend to do that but. . . .”

The Majority Leader said there was one person in particular who was spotted in the chamber interacting with a number of parliamentarians when he has been asked to self-isolate.

He said even though many others have tested negative, they are not out of the woods yet and will need to be on the watchout.

Speaker Professor Mike Aaron Oquaye directed the Marshals Office to deal with research assistants who continue to attend office duties within the enclave of Parliament despite his directive that they should stay home.

Speaker Oquaye on Tuesday, May 19 ordered all MPs as well as staff and members of the press corps to subject themselves to a mandatory testing for coronavirus.

There was controversy about the status of some of the MPs but the Head of Public Affairs, Kate Addo, denied the reports, stressing then that no MP had tested positive.
