Just weeks after parliamentarians received heavy criticism for importing furniture from China to refurbish their chamber, a leading member of the NDC, Dan Abodakpi has also hit hard at parliament.
Local furniture companies have criticized government for ignoring them to import what they describe as “inferior” chairs and tables.
According to him, the leadership of parliament has really disappointed the nation for taking such a harsh decision to weaken Ghana’s Wood industry.
He said exactly seven years ago, the nation under former President John Kufuor took a similar decision during the Ghana @ 50 celebration in which common plastic cups were imported from China.
“This action is just a sabotage of President Mahama’s vision, the Trade Ministry and the NDC as a whole even though the leadership of parliament has explained the limited period, but their action was uncalled for,” he stated.
He lashed out at the deputy majority leader in parliament, Alfred Kwame Agbesi, who said parliament in no way ignored the president’s admonishment to patronize Made-in-Ghana products because the house needed over 300 chairs and 300 tables before resuming sitting and wondered which furniture company in Ghana would have given the quantity of furniture within the short time.
He said it was unfortunate because they could have awarded the contract to five or six furniture companies in Ghana which he was sure they would have used all means to deliver on time.
He urged the NDC delegates to vote massively for him to avoid such occurrences in future because he will assist the president to work within the party’s manifesto and the developmental agenda of the country.
