Parliament is expected to swear in Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon Prof. Mike Ocquaye as acting President following a directive from the first deputy speaker, summoning all members of the house to be present for the event.
In a statement dated January 19, signed by the First Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Joseph Osei-Owusu, the mandatory presence of the MP’s in Parliament is required on Sunday January 21st to ensure the smooth temporal transition of full Presidential duties to the Speaker of Parliament, Professor Mike Ocquaye.
President Nana Akufo-Addo is expected to leave the country for Liberia Sunday while the Vice-President is already in the UK undergoing further medical treatment.
The statement adds that the emergency recall “is in accordance with the 1992 Constitution of Ghana.”
The House is expected to sit at exactly 2:30pm on the aforementioned date.
