Majority Leader Osei Kyei-Mensah- Bonsu has said that the Member of Parliament (MP) for Assin Central constituency, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, has apologised to him for certain disparaging comments he made but parliament will decide on the fate of Mr Agyapong.
Mr Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu stated that the comments made by Mr Agyapong also involves parliament as an institution so the Privileges Committee which has received the complaint is the body to make the final decision.
“Two weeks ago was when he [Mr Agyapong] called me very early in the morning from China to apologise to me and when he finished it didn’t end up with me but he called my wife and apologised to my wife,” the Minister for Parliamentary Affairs told Class News on Friday 22 June 2018.
The MP for Suame constituency said Mr Agyapong repeated the apology to him in parliament on Thursday “and that he was going to use the same medium that he used to attack me to go and offer his profound apology”.
Mr Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu said the Assin MP kept his promise and apologised on the Boiling Point programme on Oman FM.
However, the Minister for Parliamentary Affairs added: “I am an individual but this whole attack is also against parliament as an institution and we do know that parliament has referred his conduct to the Privileges Committee, if he goes and he is able to explain himself well who knows but I will leave that to the Privileges Committee”.
Meanwhile, Mr Agyapong has promised a showdown at the Privileges Committee which is currently considering the referral by the House to haul him before it for bringing the name of the House into disrepute.
Mr Agyapong is alleged to have denigrated Parliament by using offensive words against Mr Osei Kyei –Mensah- Bonsu and the House.
Minority Chief Whip, Alhaji Muntaka Mohammed Mubarak first raised the issue in parliament.
Mr Agyapong who feels uncomfortable by the action of the Asawase constituency MP indicated blatantly that the former is dumb several times during an interview with the press on Friday.
