Parliament has sent a message to all candidates, who would be writing this year’s Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), wishing them the best of luck and encouraging them to have self-belief.

A total of 509,824 candidates would sit for the examination, which starts on Monday, June 04.

The House called for the West African Examination Council (WAEC) to go the extra mile to prevent any leakage of the papers.

Mr. Siaka Stevens, Chairman of the Education Committee, in a statement urged the students to resist any temptation to cheat.

He reminded them that there were no shortcuts to success and that cutting corners would not do.

He underlined the critical importance of education to development, saying, it was the most effective weapon to fight poverty and ignorance.

Mr. Siaka invited everybody to find space to contribute to the development of the nation’s education and said it should not be left to the government alone to shoulder the responsibility.

Parents, teachers and all stakeholders should accept to play their expected roles well to enhance academic performance.

He saluted teachers, especially those in the rural and difficult-to-reach communities for the good job they were doing to help children to live their academic dreams.
