Parliamentary Primaries: NDC pegs filing fee at GHC25,000, forms at GHC2,000

Prospective candidates of the upcoming National Democratic Congress (NDC) Parliamentary Primaries have an amount of GHC25,000 and GHC2,000 to pay as requirements for filing fees and registration forms respectively.

This was announced at an engagement with the press, Thursday, July 4, 2019, at the party’s headquarters in Accra.

According to the General Secretary of the party, Johnson Aseidu Nketia, as part of the procedural necessity of the primaries, the stipulated amounts would take care of the costs of printing amongst other things thus, candidates who are disqualified thereafter will not be refunded.

Candidates with disabilities and females candidates, on the other hand, are required to pay half of the said amount for the filing fees.

“...As we’re known for, we have special consideration for gender and people living with disability so if you’re none of those and you want to contest, you’ll pay only GHC25,000. If you’re a PwD or a female candidate you’ll pay half of that, GHC12,500...” He said.

Mr. Nketia added that, per the calendar of events of the primaries, forms will be available for pickup from 10-12th July 2019 in all constituency offices, “unless otherwise determined by the party.”

Also filing of nominations and vetting he noted, would be conducted on the 18th – 19th of July 2019 and 24th – 25th July 2019, respectively.

In his address, he explained that the validity of candidates’ forms would rely heavily on accuracy of information, therefore, candidates who provide fraudulent information will be disqualified.

As part of the qualification procedures for prospective aspirants, Mr. Nketia has referred candidates to the 1992 constitution of the Republic of Ghana for further clarifications.

“...In terms of qualification, go and take the constitution of the Republic of Ghana, anything that qualifies you there to be a member of parliament of Ghana, you match it against yourself and see whether you qualify or not” he advised.

Meanwhile, the Parliamentary Primaries has been scheduled to take place on the 24th August 2019.
