Ho, Sept. 8, GNA - The Parliamentary Sub-Committee on Water Resources, Works and Housing on Wednesday recommended that technical and financial auditing of all Water and Sanitation Development Boards should be conducted in the country.
This followed indications of mismanagement and improprieties by the boards in the Volta Region.
The Committee made the recommendation at a meeting with Mr Joseph Amenowode, Volta Regional Minister, after its interactions with some of the Boards in the Region.
The Committee said such regular technical and financial auditing needed to be conducted into the affairs of the Boards to ensure their proper management.
The Committee under the Chairmanship of Mr David Assumeng Tetteh, Member of Parliament for Shia-Osudoku, also suggested that District Assemblies and Regional Coordinating Councils support "struggling Boards" and monitor their operations.
Regular training should also be given to members of the Boards for efficiency.
Mr Amenowode called for education in the communities to encourage people to pay for the water they use.
He said the 62 per cent of community water coverage in the region was not acceptable in view of the number of water bodies in the region and called for more effort from the Community Water and Sanitation Agency.
