Passenger fined for offensive conduct

Twifo Praso (C/R, March 3, GNA - Cudjoe Quaye, a 50 year old farmer from Jukwa Frami, in the Central Region, who accused the police of cheating and extorting monies from drivers when a vehicle he was travelling on was stopped at a check point, was on Wednesday fined 400,000 cedis by a District Magistrate's court at Twifo-Praso.

Quaye, who pleaded guilty to obstruction and offensive conduct likely to cause a breach of the peace, will go to prison for two months in default.

He was in addition, bonded to be of good behaviour for six months, or in default, serve two months, in prison.

Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector George Okine, told the court presided over by Mr Joseph Blay that on Tuesday, police on patrol duties in the Twifo-Praso area, stopped a Nissan Urvan passenger vehicle on which Quaye was travelling, at a check point.

The prosecution said as soon as the driver of the vehicle, one Mr Jacob Mensah stopped, Quaye, rained insults on the policemen accusing them of extorting monies and cheating drivers.

He said Quaye's behaviour, obstructed the duties of the policemen and he was arrested.
