Passengers, drivers argue over arbitrary increase of fares

There had been arbitrary increases of transport fares at Akosombo since the new prices of petroleum products were announced.

Akosombo to Somanya now attracts 3,500 cedis instead of 1,800 cedis, Kpong to Akosombo 2,000 cedis instead of 1,100 cedis, Odumase to Akosombo 2,500 cedis instead of 1,400 cedis.

A number of passengers the Ghana News Agency (GNA) interviewed on Monday appealed to the government to send down some of the new buses to ease the tension on commuters in the area.

Some of the drivers also argued that the 30 percent increase announced by the government was inadequate due to the high costs of spare parts and other lubricants.
