The Foreign Affairs Minister, Alhaji Mohammed Mumuni says the usual fraud associated with the issuance of passports to Ghanaians has reduced drastically due to some reforms introduced into the issuance process.
According to the Alhaji Mumuni, there is increased revenue to the state as a result of the improved system in the process across the country.
The Minister made these known when he took his turn at the meet-the-press series on Thursday.
“I am pleased to inform you that the reforms undertaken by the Ministry last year at the main passport office and at the Accra passport application centre to address operational constraints have succeeded in reducing the backlog of passport application and delays in the passport processing” Alhaji Mumuni said.
The Minister stated that his ministry has turned his attention to Ghanaian missions outside to tighten its processes of issuing visa to people coming to Ghana.
He said his Ministry has especially issued a direct to the Ghana Immigration Service to properly screen foreigners arriving in Ghana.
“The ministry has now turned its attention to Ghana missions abroad, where a selected number have been provided with standard equipment for procurement and subsequent installation of the requisite software to commence issuing biometric passports to Ghanaians living abroad”.
