Pastor before court for an alleged car theft

Cape Coast, March 18, GNA - Charles Aidoo, Pastor of Twelve Apostles' Church at Saltpond, was on Tuesday granted GH¢ 5,000 bail by a Cape Coast Circuit court for allegedly conspiring with two others now at large to steal an Opel Astra taxi cab valued at GH¢ 4,000. Pastor Aidoo pleaded not guilty to conspiracy to steal and stealing and would re-appear on Tuesday, April 8. Mr Anthony Wiredu, Principal State Attorney prosecuting, told the court presided over by Mr Richard Asiedu-Badu that sometime in April 2006, a taxi driver reported to the police at Saltpond that the accused and accomplices hired his taxi from Saltpond to Accra. He said the accused told the driver that they were going to Accra to take delivery of a vehicle sent to him (accused) by his brother, they inspected some vehicles at a garage and the accused spotted one and asked the driver to take them to Kwashieman, a suburb of Accra, to take passport photographs.

Mr Wiredu said the accused took over the taxi from the driver and asked him to procure the keys to the new vehicle from the garage but the accused and accomplices took the taxi away. He said the driver returned to Saltpond and reported the matter to the police and the accused was arrested and after investigations charged with the offence.
