Accra, Sept. 17, GNA - The Leader of the End Time Ministries, Pastor Owusu Bempah is to be arraigned for dishonestly buying two luxurious cars stolen from Italy.
The Attorney General's Office has directed the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) to arraign the Pastor Bempah since a prima facie case had been established against him on a stolen Mercedes Benz car whose owner has been located in Italy.
Sources at The CID Headquarters told the Ghana News Agency that the evidence to prosecute Pastor Bempah on the other vehicle, a Jaguar, was not adequate, even though, Police believed it was also stolen. Pastor Owusu Bempah was arrested in January for owning the two stolen cars.
While Interpol Accra was investigating a previous case against Pastor Bempah, he accused the Police of trying to extort money from him so the Police Administration referred the case to another unit of the CID.
The source said the Italian Embassy had informed the Police that a representative of the owner of the vehicle would soon be made available to testify for the Prosecution.
The source said it was discovered during investigations that Pastor Bempah was aware of the doubtful source of the car and that a syndicate associated with stolen cars was involved.
It said while the car was valued at 70,000 dollars on the open market, Pastor Bempah bought it at about 22,000 dollars.
The source said a member of the syndicate arrested and detained in Italy confirmed during investigations that Pastor Bempah was aware the car was not from a genuine source.
Police in January arrested the Pastor Bempah for having in his possession two stolen vehicles and using fake registration numbers. Pastor Bempah was picked up after investigations revealed that the two vehicles were stolen from Italy. The Mercedes belonged to an Italian.
Police enquiries showed that the Pastor falsified the registration number of the Jaguar.
Interpol Italy has confirmed the cars were stolen.
