Pastor condemns Christian businessmen who dodge tax payments

Obuasi, Jan 9, GNA - The Reverend Otuo Acheampong, Chairman of the Asante Presbytery of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, has condemned Christian businessmen and women who cheat the nation by refusing to pay tax.

He said the use of unapproved routes to avoid paying duty was in itself ungodly and it would not help in the socio-economic transformation of the country.

Speaking at the close of a four-day convention organised by the Bible Study and Prayer Group (BSPG) of the Asante Presbytery of the church at Obuasi on Sunday, Rev Acheampong also expressed regret that the activities of most Christians promoted tribalism and the destruction of the environment.

He said the church had a duty to speed up the social transformation of the country and that most Christians refused to participate in communal labour.

"Most Christians do not participate in communal labour to clean their environment yet they believe that cleanliness is next to Godliness".

Rev Acheampong urged Christians to lead the crusade against poor sanitation in their communities. On corruption, he said, "people accuse politicians and government officials, forgetting that most Christians are themselves corrupt or they contribute to corrupt the system."
