Pastor convicted for bigamy

A 35-year-old pastor of the Supreme Life Chapel International was on Tuesday put before an Accra Circuit Court charged with bigamy.

Isaac Quaye Fynn pleaded guilty and the court convicted him to a fine of GHC420 or in default, six months imprisonment.

Patience Frimpomaa a.k.a Martha Afua, who was in the dock with the pastor pleaded not guilty to the charge of marrying a person who was previously married.

The court presided over by Ms Sedina Agbemava, admitted Frimpomaa, a caterer to bail in the sum of GHC2,000 with two sureties to reappear on May 27.

Prosecuting, Inspector Kofi Atimbire said the complainant was Kaleen Quaye Fynn, who had been legally married to Pastor Fynn over the past four years and blessed with two children, aged three years and six months respectively. The two lived at Alajo in Accra.

Inspector Atimbire said Frimpomaa resides at Ofankor in Accra. During the month of May 2012, Pastor Fynn started going to the Kwahu Mountains for prayers.

Unknown to the complainant, Pastor Fynn arraigned with Frimpomaa’s family at Kwahu Bepong and performed Frimpomaa's marriage rites although she was aware that pastor Fynn was legally married.

According to prosecution, Frimpomaa and Pastor Fynn have a child. In September 2013, the complainant gave birth to her second child and went to stay with her elder sister for one month.

Prosecution said the complainant returned to her matrimonial home only to meet Pastor Fynn and Frimpomaa in an amorous manner and informed the head pastor about it.

The executive Committee of the Church made inquiries and realised that Pastor Fynn was also married to Frimpomaa, and suspended him from the church.

Prosecution said Pastor Fynn was given some time to divorce Frimpomaa but he failed to do so. On February 26, this year the matter was reported to the Domestic Violence and Victim’s Support Unit, Accra.

Pastor Fynn and Frimpomaa were arrested and they admitted being married.
