Pastor of the suspect who is alleged to have stabbed his wife has refuted claims that the pastoral board of the church knew about the alleged mental illness of his congregant.

It was reported that the deceased, according to some tenants called the head pastor to inform him about her husband’s weird behaviour.

But setting the records straight during Sunday service, November 3, 2019, the man of God said no member of the church’s pastoral board or himself had prior knowledge about the culprit’s mental health status.

The religious leader added that the unfortunate incident does not in any way merit judgment from members of the church.

He intimated that the church has not disowned Mr Commodore despite the fact that he is on trial for committing murder.

“Even though this issue has happened and our brother is the main suspect, we don’t have disowned him. He's still a member.”

He also encouraged congregants to report any signs of mental instability to appropriate authorities.

The culprit, Prince Commodore stood trial last week but the case was adjourned to Wednesday, November 13, 2019.

A close source has also denied earlier reports indicating that the culprit is a member of the church’s Ushering team.

Meanwhile, the body of the deceased has since been deposited at the Ghana Police Hospital Morgue.

Background

The Dansoman Divisional Police Commander, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Isaac Kwadwo Asante, confirmed the incident and said the Ghana Police Service national control room received information that a man had killed his wife in a house at Shiabu at about 4:30 a.m. on Sunday, October 27, 2019.

The Dansoman Police Patrol team, upon hearing the information, followed the signal and located the house.

At the house, the suspect had locked himself up in his room and would not open it despite the police requesting him to do so.

The police then forced the door open and arrested him after the body of a woman was seen in the room with bloodstains all over it.

The Crime Scene Management team from the headquarters of the Criminal Investigations Department of the Ghana Police Service was immediately called in to assess the situation.
