Pastors fight over President Mahama

The Founder and General Overseer of the Action Faith Chapel International, Archbishop Nicholas Duncan Williams, has slammed Rev. Isaac Owusu Bempah, founder of the Glorious Word Ministry International who recently made a doomsday prophecy about President John Dramani Mahama’s fate this year.

Last week, Rev. Owusu Bempah stated emphatically that on December 31, 2012, he foresaw the possible death of President Mahama before the end of this year.

According to him, the only way the dark verdict could be overturned was when President Mahama and his advisors took specific steps to reverse the doom.

However, during last Sunday’s sermon in the Action Chapel, Archbishop Duncan Williams told his congregation that such prophecies should be taken with a pinch of salt, because sometimes the doomsday prophets are blinded by their “greed and selfishness.”

“You have no idea what will happen if anything happens to the sitting President…they say all kinds of things and people believe it because people are ignorant. You don’t understand what happens to the country if something happens to the sitting President, people don’t understand,” the Arch Bishop slammed the prophesy.

Archbishop Duncan Williams was cautious though, not to mention any preacher’s name in his condemnation. It was however apparent that his discontent was directed at the gloomy fate Rev. Owusu Bempah was predicting for President Mahama.

He challenged the general public to scrutinize the personality of the preacher predicting doom before accepting his verdict: “The thing that you must always look out for when you see all these prophets prophesying all kinds of doom on the internet against the President…is to ask yourself does [the Prophet] have honour, credibility, character and integrity?

Where did he come from? Who trained him? How long has he been on the scene? Who laid hands on him? Whose product is he? At whose feet did he study? Who groomed him? Who covered him? Who was his teacher? Who taught him?

“You must be honourable first to qualify to make whatever you say that comes to pass legitimate…it is not just about prophesying,” Duncan Williams charged.

The General Overseer and Resident Pastor of the World Miracle International Church, Bishop Charles Agyin-Asare also called on colleague men of God not to take delight in prophesying the deaths of people.

Bishop Charles Agyin-Asare, reacting to a prophecy by Rev. Owusu Bempah, advised him to use an appropriate channel to reach out to the Presidency.

Describing as “pastorally and scripturally unethical” the renowned Prophet’s option of using the media to air his alleged prophesy, Bishop Agyin-Asare said Rev. Owusu Bempah should have consulted with the Presidency or the Spiritual leader of the President before going public.

Rev Owusu Bempah has been in the middle of several controversies following his audacious pronouncements made in the past on topical socio-political issues in the country.

The renowned cleric claims he foresaw the death in 2012 of the late President John Atta Mills and former Vice President Aliu Mahama as well as a plane crash that claimed scores of lives on December 31, 2011.

His stance on the ongoing election petition in the Supreme Court is widely known.

According to the controversial preacher, the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) was set to win its petition at the apex court and hence see the NPP flagbearer, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, sworn in as Ghana’s new President.

However, he said a senior member of the NPP who has held a national leadership position would die just about the time Akufo-Addo would be sworn in.
