Pastors must take political stance – Bishop Titi-Offei

Presiding Bishop of the Pleasant Place Church and President of Almond Institute, Bishop Gideon Titi-Ofei is admonishing Pastors and church leaders to take stance on political decisions that have bearing on the Ghanaian populace.

Bishop Titi-Ofei who is also General Secretary of the National Association of Charismatic and Christian Churches (NACCC) says the modern-day-church has moved beyond just attending to the spiritual needs of its members.

"I think Pastors should be encouraged to take a political stance on issues, the behavioural leadership coach and strategist noted after taken a swipe at what he describes as ‘the politician's decision to exclude the church from national discourse’.

"The modern day churches have moved beyond attending the spiritual churches of members. The church contributes to the intellectual and psychological make-up of the members so it’s important it leaders get involved in the decision making process. There are lot of people who have the church as their only source of information."

Speaking on the sidelines at ‘The Start-up CEOs Convention’ in Accra, Bishop Titi-Ofei noted that the church plays an immense role in nation building, adding that pastors who have proven to be very intelligent should be forthcoming with their contribution to help sharpen the political discourse.

He also noted that the criticization of Pastors for commenting on political issues is underserved while bemoaning that politicians have been successful in side-lining what he calls ‘voice of reason’ from men of Ghana.
