Patients sleep on empty beds at Lawra hospital

Patients on admission at the Lawra Hospital in the Upper West region have been compelled to sleep on empty beds without mattresses and those with mattresses sleep without bed sheets.

The facility which is confronted with a myriad of challenges also has only one resident doctor Dr Justine Dakurah to cater for the hundreds of patients who attend the hospital for medical attention daily.

According to authorities, the hospital has over the years been witnessing perennial flooding leading to some structural defects hampering healthcare delivery within Lawra and communities around.

This was made known when the Member of Parliament (MP) for the area Anthony N-yoh Abayifaa Karbo, accompanied by some of his present and past constituency executives paid a surprise visit to the facility at the weekend.

He was worried on realizing the hospital only has one resident medical doctor who has to attend to hundreds of patients daily, spotted empty beds without mattresses and the few that have mattresses do not even have bed sheets.

Some patients who spoke to mynewsgh.com, said they sometimes have to carry their own bed sheets to the hospital for use.

Mr Karbo in response to the situation said “My constituents don’t deserve this, Lawra District is too old to be facing such challenges” he said.

He disclosed that he has taken notice of their challenges and will work in partnership with the Ministry of Health to find ways in addressing them.
