Accra, June 28, GNA - The Teachers and Educational Worker's Union (TEWU) of the trades Union Congress (TUC) and the Federation of Universities Senior Staff Association of Ghana (FUSSAG) have called for the payment of the arrears of the Adjusted Salary Structure for Public Universities with effect from January 1 2004 on or before July 31.
A resolution adopted by the two organizations at a meeting held in Kumasi on June 24 this year said: "If by the close of work on July 5, 2004 the Vice Chancellors of Ghana (VCG) have not acted to secure for us the effective date of January 1, 2004, the Unions shall not be responsible for any consequences that may arise."
The resolution jointly signed by Mr Daniel Ayim Antwi, General Secretary of TEWU and Mr Dominic Otomfo Essel, Federal President of FUSSAG, said they rejected the effective date of March 1, 2004 for the payment at a meeting with the VCG at Winneba on June 9, 2004. It said they would abide by the agreement reached on April 16, 2004 with the Committee of Vice Chancellors and Principals (CVCP) that the effective date for the payment of the new salary should be January 1, 2004.
"We are surprised at the March 1, 2004 effective date announced by the VCG and reject that date outright", the resolution said.
