Accra, Nov. 7, GNA - The Peace Seekers International (PSI), a non-governmental organization, would represent Ghana at the Annual Conference on Peace Education to be held in Canada to address issues contained in the United Nations Culture of Peace Programme.
It would also address The Hague Appeal for Global Peace Education Campaign and explore avenues for deepening human rights, democracy and international understanding and tolerance.
The conference is also expected to evolve a mechanism through which the recommendations from the meeting could be acted upon by various governments.
The McMaster University Peace Studies Centre in collaboration with the Canadian Centres for Teaching Peace would organise the conference from November 20 to November 24.
Alhaji Abubakar Daanaa, Peace Seekers National Coordinator, told the Ghana News Agency in an interview in Accra that the group's peace moves throughout the country especially the promotion of national reconciliation was the reason for their invitation.
He said Peace Seekers would deliver a paper on: "Peace Moves in The Ghana; the Role of Non-Governmental Organizations and Civil Society Groups in Facilitating and Maintaining Peace".
Alhaji Daanaa said Peace Seekers International recently launched a special crusade against indiscipline at the Nima Central Mosque dubbed: "We Zongos Are Law Abiding People". This is aimed at erasing the negative publicity about Muslims in general and Nima, in particular.
He noted that people often used religion to make moral decisions, saying religious leaders should preach and educate the public on self-discipline and responsible behaviour.
He explained that they intended to use Imams, the Clergy, identifiable youth groups and peer educators to sensitise Muslim youth on responsible lifestyle. 07 Nov. 03
