Peace march on Saturday in Accra

Ahead of the General Elections in Ghana , ‘Peace Carnival’ an organization that works in promoting peace in the country is organizing a ‘Peace March’ on Saturday, October 13 in Accra to highlight on the need to ensure an incident free poll in December.

The march which has been tagged ‘Peace March- 2012’ would bring together all the political parties and youth groups in the Nima, Maamobi and Accra New Town area to spread the message of peace ahead of the December elections.

It is expected to start from the Kawukudi Park near Accra Girls SHS, pass through Maamobi, Nima, Accra New Town and end at the Kotobaabi Police station park.

Leaders of the campaign would address participants at the end of the walk and send out a clear message to all political parties contesting the December poll on the importance of ensuring that there is peace before, during and after the upcoming elections.

They will also urge the youth of Ghana to appreciate the essence of peace at all times, ensure social cohesion and promote unity among Ghanaians.

The Peace Carnival 2012 continues next weekend, Saturday 21st and Sunday 22nd October at the Accra Technical Training Centre (ATTC) Park where twelve (12) youth teams would engage in a two – day soccer tournament to climax the campaign.

Balloting for the competition will take place at the end of Saturday’s ‘Peace March’. The twelve (12) teams will be put into four groups with three teams in a group. The group matches will be played on the first day, Saturday 21st October.

The winners of each group will advance to the semi final. The competition ends on Sunday October 22nd with the semi final, third and fourth place and final matches being played. The winner of the tournament will take home a trophy.

The teams taking part in the tournament are: Nima Stars, Jesus Stars, Bangkok, Mafias, Shaolin and Mallamatta. Others are Method, Akotex, Alajo, Post Office, Maamobi and Paradise.
