Accra, July 22, GNA - Peacekeepers from Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) on United Nation's Mission in Central African Republic and Chad based in Ho who just completed their mission on Thursday donated 2,000 dollars to the management of Ghana Heart Foundation (GHF) in Accra.

Lieutenant-Colonel Abass Seidu who led the peacekeepers and presented the money said it was their social responsibility and it was important for Ghanaians to contribute to the health needs of the citizenry.

He urged other peacekeepers to donate to the centre to raise more money for needy patients.

Dr Lawrence Agyemang Sereboe, Consultant at the Cardiothoracic Centre, Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, received the money and thanked the peacekeepers.

He explained that the Foundation was established to assist patients who required heart surgery but unfortunately could not afford 50 per cent of the cost.

Dr Sereboe said Ghana was the only country in which the cost of heart surgery was low taking into account assistance to the Foundation from organisations, institutions and philanthropists.

He said with a minimum contribution of GH¢1.00 monthly from one million Ghanaians, the Foundation could operate more efficiently and effectively.
