Peer educators urged to lobby women to use female condoms

Jumapo, Oct. 8, GNA - The New Juaben Municipal Assembly's focal person on AIDs, Mr Kwaku Boateng, has appealed to peer educators on HIV/AIDS to lobby women to use the female condom to help increase its usage and enable women to take control of their protection against HIV/AIDS.

He made the appeal at the launching of a community-based organisation (CBO) called Patbrenda at Jumapo, near Koforidua on Thursday.

Mr Boateng said the New Juaben Municiapl Assembly had put in measures to monitor activities of all CBO's, who had sourced funds of the Ghana AIDS Commission through the assembly.

Some of the participants at the workshop expressed concern about the non- provision of logistics needed for the implementation of the project after the training.

One of the participant, Mr Michael Kankam, who said he was attending such training course for the third time, cited an instance, where an NGO operating under the Ghana AIDS Commission, who engaged him and others in a house to house campaign, failed to pay the expenses incurred during the programme.

He therefore appealed to the Ghana AIDs Commission (GAC) to monitor the activities of the CBO's to ensure that the monies received were used for the intended purposes.

The Co-ordinator of the CBO, Mrs Matilda Appiah-Biney appealed to the participants not to take the training for granted, but rather disseminate the knowledge gained to the people.

She assured them of the necessary logistics and allowances that would be needed in the implementation of the programme, which would last for eight weeks.
