Pelpuo re-elected unopposed

Accra, June 12, GNA-Mr. Abdul-Rashid Pelpuo, MP for Wa Central, has urged the Ghanaian electorate not to be deceived by gifts to give their votes to unqualified leaders.

Mr. Pelpuo, recently re-elected unopposed as Candidate for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for the Wa Central Constituency for Election 2008, said the electorate must be cautious, and reject people and parties that created poverty and dire situations and turned around to entice the voters with gifts to retain them in power. Speaking to the Ghana News Agency in Accra, the Wa Central MP said Ghanaians were now more fully aware of and dissatisfied with the failed policies of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP).

He said the NDC was enjoying a lot of goodwill, and the election of Prof. John Evans Atta Mills as Flagbearer and Mr. John Dramani Mahama as Running Mate had increased the confidence levels of the people of Ghana to make a better choice of Government to replace the NPP. Mr Pelpuo said the message of hope of the NDC was striking a chord with the people.

He thanked the 300 delegates that gathered at the Nusrat Jahan Teachers' Training College, in Wa, to re-elect him for the confidence reposed in him, and asked the constituents to give him back their mandate to represent them in the national assembly. The delegates had come from Busaa, Siing, Boli, Guli Kperisi Cherieh, Nakori and Chansa communities.

The Wa Central MP assured the people that he would work to ensure equity in the distribution of the national wealth which, he said, had been absent in the present approach of government to development. Mr Pelpuo said his focus had been on education, adding that, he had established a scholarship fund for brilliant but needy students. He said he was not only fully paying the fees for four students to read medicine at the university level, but he had also supported 220 students to enter tertiary institutions to pursue courses of their choice.

He said he had also renovated nine school blocks, and had provided drinking water to four communities through distilling of their water sources. He said he had also dug wells to provide potable water for the people. The MP appealed to his constituents and the Ghanaian electorate at large to be calm to ensure a peaceful atmosphere for the December elections.
