People and Places: Who helps the helper? A 'broken' philanthropist's story

After surviving a life-threatening accident which left her with a broken arm and leg, Priscilla Naa Aklerh Okantey, whose goal to be a philanthropist at a good old age suddenly got the premonition that life was too short to wait till you have made it in life to impact people.

Having been patched up after five surgeries to get back on her feet, Priscilla decided to go ahead with her mission to change the lives of underprivileged in society despite being 23 and ‘broke’.

With help from friends and family however, Naa Aklerh founded the ReachOut World Missions; a Non-Governmental Organisation whose sole aim was to uplift the poor, broken and underprivileged in society by giving them a foretaste of what regular living looked like.

Together with her team, she has impacted the lives of over 9000 orphans across 5 regions in the country.

In a rather sad twist, her metallic bone implant is faulty, leaving her with no option but to use her only functioning arm to live and move about. To correct the anomalies without having to be tossed about like she has 5 times already by some Ghanaian hospitals, she is faced with the situation of having to raise funds for a surgery in South Africa, after which the 28-year-old can move ahead with her dreams of changing the world.
