People of Atiwa asked to bear with Government

Banso (E/R), May 27, GNA - Mr Kwadwo Afram Asiedu, Eastern Regional Minister, has appealed to the chiefs and people of Atiwa District to bear with Government as it try to provide them with development projects.

He told them that, Government was doing its best to carry out all the electoral promises it made to them.

Mr Asiedu was reacting to concerns expressed by the chiefs and people of the area about the inability of the government to fulfil its campaign promises made to them.

This came to light when the Minister visited the area to inspect road works in the District on Tuesday.

Roads inspected included: the Anyinam Railway Station-Accra Village feeder road, Mourso-Akrofufu road, Kwabeng-Akrofufu-Abomosu road, Abomosu-Asunafo-Aworsoase road, Akyem Akropong-Tumfa-Ekorso road and the Akyem Akropong-Paming-Banso-Kwabeng road. Mr Aseidu said the visit was for him to be abreast with the problems of the road network in the area in order to take the necessary measures to resolve them.

Mr Kwasi Osei-Agyepong, Atiwa District Chief Executive, appealed to the contractors who have abandoned their work in the District to resume work to save the numerous difficulties motorist went through. He reminded them that, as Ghanaians firms, they have a stake in supporting the development of the country.

Mr Osei-Agyepong said the contract for the rehabilitation of the Anyinam Railway Station-Accra Village road was awarded in 2005 but the contractor working on the project abandoned it after completing only the culverts.

He said at present, the road had deteriorated so badly making it difficult for farmers to transport their farming produce to marketing centres.

Barima Kwaku Kyei III, Chief of Banso, complained that because the area was the stronghold of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), the party seemed to have taken the area for granted and had not fulfilled any of the numerous promises it made to them.

He, therefore, urged the party to ensure that it fulfilled all its electoral promises to the people so that party functionaries in the area could mobilised the youth to vote massively for the party come December elections.

Barima Kyei III mentioned the tarring of the roads and the provision of electricity as the major demands of the people. Similar sentiments were expressed by the Moursohene, Nana Biama Adomaa I and the elders of Kwabeng led by Nana Darkwa Tia, Gyasewahene of the town.
