Baamiri (B/A), Sept 13, GNA - The people of Baamiri are paying special levies to extend electricity to new settlements in the community.

Mr John Kwasi Kwao, the Assembly Member, said this at the celebration of the annual Munufie Yam Festival at Baamiri. He said the people would organise a fund raising rally in October in support of the project.

Nana Obiri Yeboah Kokroko, Chief of Baamiri, cautioned the youth against illicit sex to avoid being infected with HIV and urged parents to attach importance to the education of their children. He announced plans to allocate about 10 million cedis out of stool land revenue to support the education of brilliant but needy students.

Nana Yaa Gyapomaa, Queen mother of Baamiri, advised women in the area engaged in gari processing to form cooperative societies to seek credit facilities.

She expressed concern that about 70 women engaged in the gari business lacked leadership and as such no organisation could support the financially.
