People of Kenten comes together for development

Kenten (B/A), Aug. 29, GNA - The chiefs and people of Kenten, a quarter of Techiman municipality, are to spend two billion cedis on two major developmental projects in the area.

The projects are the construction of a 1.5 billion cedis three-storey palace and 250 million cedis Ameyaw Sports Complex and an extension of mechanised bore holes in new development area at Kenten, estimated at 250 million cedis.

Nana Yaw Frimpong, Dabehene and Kentenhene of the Techiman Traditional Area announced this on the occasion of the celebration of their annual two-day "Fordjour Yam Festival at Kenten-Konimase. Nana Frimpong said, the projects, which were expected to take off next month, has a three-year-development plan, would be financed through tolls from Kenten stool lands, fund raising harvest and support from sub-chiefs.

He called on Kenten citizens resident outside to lend their support towards the execution of the projects.

Oseadeeyo Akumfi-Ameyaw, Omanhene of Techiman Traditional Area, who was present at the festival, called on the people to come together and contribute generously towards the development of the area. Oseadeeyo Akumfi-Ameyaw commended the chiefs and his elders for the unity that had prevailed amongst them and urged them to keep it up, adding that, the government alone could not meet all the demands of the communities, unless they cooperated with one another to initiate development projects to gain governments support.

Mr Addai Simons, Member of Parliament (MP) for Techiman South Constituency, called on the people of Techiman to eschew acts that had the potential of bringing about instability and thereby, driving away development and investments from their communities. Mr Simons said he had provided funds for the construction of Kenten market and that of Konimase, extension of electricity at Konimase, and the slaughterhouse road and had provided 65 bags of cement for the renovation of Islamic and Al-Kyariya Primary and Junior Secondary Schools through his share of the common fund.

He entreated the people to be truthful and faithful towards the efforts he was making for every community to enjoy the little common fund that came to him and not to be politicising such development as alleged to be initiated by a non-governmental organisation, just to discredit his efforts.

Mr Sulemana Owusu, Pioneer Assemblyman for Kenten-Konimase Electoral Area, aspiring to be re-elected, appealed to the people to vote for him in order that he would approach the business of the assembly with open mind and to offer constructive criticisms devoid of partisan politics towards the development of Kenten-Konimase Electoral Area.

Nana Opoku Antwi, Kyidomhene of Kenten through whose efforts Kenten and Nawariden Primary and J.S.S. was established, called on parents to encourage their children to go to school and to take advantage of the government capitation grant, as that was the best legacy they could bequeath to their children.
