....due to late arrive of Regional Minister

Drobo (B/A), Jan 18, GNA - The people of Drobo in Jaman District of Brong Ahafo on Friday boycotted the People's Assembly due to the late arrival of Mr Ernest Akubour Debrah, the Brong Ahafo Regional Minister.

The Minister who was the main speaker at the function arrived at about 1800 hours instead of 1400 hours.

Majority of the people including traditional leaders, religious groups and students left after waiting for about five hours before the arrival of the Minister and his entourage at the District Assembly Hall.

The few people who remained stood in groups in front of the hall and refused to take part in the programme as some remarked that their "precious time" had been wasted.

One of them, who gave his name as Gyaw Boamah, told newsmen that a lot of the people, including chiefs got seated as early as 1300 hours for the meeting, which was scheduled to start at 1400 hours.

It took the Regional Minster about 15 minutes to cool down tempers after he had apologized.

Mr Debrah, who is acting as the Regional Minister for Ashanti and Northern Regions explained that his late arrival was due to a trip to Kumasi on Thursday evening for an equally important issue after a similar programme at Dormaa Ahenkro.

On his return to Sunyani the following day, he realised that he would be late for the function so he sent a message to the DCE at Drobo to arrange with the people to reschedule the programme or postpone it since he had to first be at Sampa for a similar programme.

He said he later got information from the DCE that there was power failure when he received his (Minister's) message so he had to rely on the local FM station to inform the people that the meeting had been shifted from 1400 hours to 1630 hours, by which time some of the people had already gone to the assembly hall.

The Minister agreed with the few people around for a postponement of the programme but the new date was not immediately fixed.
