The Minister for Sanitation and Water Resources, Madam Cecilia Abena Dapaah says government remains fully committed to protecting the public purse.

Madam Dapah reiterated that her ministry is bent on playing its role in fulfilling that objective.

The minister made this statement during her visit to the James Town Slaughter House as part of her three-day tour of various municipalities within the city of Accra.

The Water Resources Minister during an interaction with people who operate at the slaughterhouse, found out that, a cowhide processor has been using a non-functional Ghana Water company meter.

A further probe by the minister revealed that the woman who provided a current bill of GHC169.00 consumption of water has not been paying bills for several months.

The minister who was not happy with the situation bemoaned the rate at which individuals engaged in such practices are creating a bad name for the government as well as incurring losses on the nation.

“People have been stealing this water and the president is trying to keep the purse. He is incorruptible and these are the cases of corruption that we talk about.”

She charged her team to engage the Ghana Water Company to take up the matter and ensure a proper investigation into the situation.

“You don’t be frightened (referring to the woman). We will come and check payments and the volume of water they use. Get Ghana Water because the government is being short-changed and we will not tolerate that.” She instructed.

The minister as part of efforts to beef up governments bid in making Accra the cleanest city in Africa is on a three-day tour of various municipalities in the city.

The tour which is expected to end today is aimed at equipping the minister with first-hand information on progress being made so far.
