The former Youth and Sports Minister Elvis Afriyie-Ankrah has stated that some people wanted him to fail at the Sports Ministry.

According to him, the unfortunate events that occurred in Brazil during the World Cup was the right opportunity for people who did not want him at the ministry to orchestrate his exit.

The Black Stars of Ghana exited the tournament in the first round after picking just a point from a maximum nine.

There were reports of player indiscipline, some of which degenerated into fights as well as government's failure to pay the appearance fees of the footballers on time.

In the end, government had to fly over 3 million dollars to settle the appearance fees of the players, a conduct that reduced Ghana to global ridicule.

Speaking in an interview with host of Starr Chat Bola Ray Wednesday, Afriyie-Ankrah who is now a minister of State at the Presidency said he was saddened by some of the false reportage that emanated from people within the ministry.

“I think that there were people who for one reason or the other did not like me and the circumstances of the World Cup presented an opportunity where they could play all sorts of games”.

Mr. Afriyie-Ankrah also stated that he regrets the unfortunate events in Brazil adding that what happened in the South American country could have been avoided.
