Krobea Kwabena Asante, an aide to the presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has contested the analogy by respected Ghanaian media personality, Shamima Muslim, that the victory of the Labour Party in the recently held elections in the United Kingdom signals a victory for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the 2024 elections.

Kwabena Asante averred that to win the 2024 UK elections, the Labour Party had to make significant changes in its leadership, including the candidate for Prime Minister.

On the contrary, the NDC has maintained John Dramani Mahama as their flagbearer for the 2024 elections.

"The Labour Party won this time because it changed Corbyn, the leader who lost in 2017 and 2019, and brought in Sir Starmer. So if this lady wants the Labour way, then Mahama, who lost in 2016 and 2020, can't be the person to lead the NDC to go the Labour way. Labour won with a new leader, and the NDC should do that first," he said.

Shamima Muslim, in a social media post on Friday, July 5, 2024, suggested that the wind of change that blew through the UK, as evidenced in the results of their elections, will manifest in Ghana too.

"Congratulations to the #UK Labour Party for your landslide win. Indeed, no one should be rewarded who has led a country into crisis. We in Ghana are waiting to deliver an equally sobering verdict. We are inspired and convinced. #ITISPOSSIBLE to Vote out the NPP. GH will be restored," she shared.

Sir Keir Starmer became the new Prime Minister after the Labour Party won the 2024 UK election on Friday, July 5, 2024.

Labour won 412 seats, meaning the Conservative Party has lost power for the first time in 14 years and has suffered one of the biggest defeats in its history.
