Anfoega, (V/R), April 23, GNA - Professor Kwaku Danso Boafo, Minister of Health has assured mission hospitals that the government's performance contracts with them are not meant to take them over.

On the contrary, the ministry of health would depend on missions to assist in health care delivery. This was contained in a speech read on his behalf at the 40th anniversary of the Anfoega Catholic Hospital and the commissioning of a 20 million-cedi surgical theatre.

An amount of 19.3 million cedis was realised at the function towards procuring equipment for the theatre. Prof Boafo said that the government is seeking a partnership with non-governmental health establishments in planning to meet targets.

The Minister pointed out that under the partnership, facilities of mission and private health institutions would be considered for support in terms of capacity building and resource allocation.

The beneficiary health institutions would be expected to function in accordance with the policies and priorities of the Ministry of Health, he said adding that the focus of Anfoega Hospital on community health is in line with the objective of increasing access to quality health services.

Prof Boafo urged chiefs and community leaders to encourage their people to practice messages aimed at achieving good health without cost. Bishop Francis Lodonu, Catholic Bishop of the Ho Diocese, said the aim of Catholic hospitals is to provide good physical health as part of their spiritual development of the people.

He said that the Anfoega hospital has been fulfilled this objective for the past 40 years and thanked the government for its assistance, which made the achievement possible.

Mr Fabian K. Donkor, Hospital Administrator said the hospital would work hard to regain its past fame as an institution for providing quality services at affordable cost.

He said the hospital is recruiting and training its staff as part of a five year programme to upgrade infrastructure and services. Miss Akua Dansua, Kpando District Chief Executive commended staff for their dedication.

Long service awards were presented to some of the staff.
