Elubo (W/R), Oct. 30, GNA - Mr Hackman Owusu-Agyeman, Minister of Interior, on Tuesday advised personnel manning the country's frontiers to remain vigilant to enable then to check the activities of smugglers.
He said smuggling could weaken the economy and affect the implementation of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) protocols of free movement of goods, people and services.
Mr Owusu-Agyeman gave the advice at a workers' forum at Elubo on Tuesday, to round off his two-day working visit to the Western Region. He cautioned the personnel not to mete out any inhumane treatment to travellers and traders at the entry points and that they should exhibit professionalism and maturity in their operations.
He assured the workers that the proposed National Identification Card would contain more information on every Ghanaian and would be used for all future documentations.
"The government would ensure that only Ghanaians are given such ID cards, a unified document for all to facilitate easy identification of persons," he added.
Mr Joseph Aidoo, Western Regional Minister urged District Security Committees to work assiduously to ensure peace and stability. Mr Owusu-Agyeman and Mr Aidoo later inspected some unapproved routes along the border.
