The Minister of Youth and Sports has promised to ensure that persons indicted in the “damaging” Maputo report are dealt with per the laws of the country.

The report has been described as “damning” by the Speaker of Parliament and some Members of Parliament (MPs) have called for action to be taken on all persons indicted.

The Ministry of Youth and Sports set up a committee chaired by Nii Adotey Din Barima to investigate the circumstances leading to the embarrassment of the national athletics team during the All Africa games in Maputo Mozambique in 2011.

The report indicted then boss of the National Sports Authority, Mr. Worlanyo Agrah, and the current Chief Sports Development Officer of the National Sports Authority, Mr. Erasmus Adorkor.

The two were accused of corruption in the awards of contract and lack of supervision of contracts but no action was taken on any of the persons indicted in the report.

However, speaking to XYZ News on Tuesday, Mr Afriyie-Ankrah stated that persons found to have misappropriated funds during the Maputo All African Games in 2011 will be punished.

He however noted that proper procedures must be followed before those found culpable are dealt with.

“Ours was to get the report and once we get the report we wrote to the officers that we want to hear their side of the story and then we would send it to the auditor and then subsequent action would be taken," he said.

“We live in a country where we have rule of law and we also have procedures…so it is important that we do things according to law and procedures”.

Mr. Afriyie also disclosed that the officials indicted in the report have been given up to the end of this month to respond to the findings in the report.
