The Appointments Committee of Parliament received a petition against one of President John Dramani Mahama's candidates, but it was of no real significance, according to Bernard Ahiafor, the committee's chairman.

In an interview with Bernard Avle on Channel One TV's The Point of View, he stated that the petition was against the nomination itself, not the vetting procedure, and thus did not fall under the committee's purview.

“We only received one petition, and it is nothing to write home about. It was a petition against the nomination, and for us, our jurisdiction is invoked after the person is nominated to be vetted.

“So if the petition is against the nomination of the person, then the petition should be channeled to the appropriate forum, the one who has the power to nominate,” citinewsroom.com quoted him as saying.

Ahiafor and the Minority Leader determined that the petition had no probative value after examining its contents.

“Having looked at the content of the petition, it was nothing to write home about. So myself and the Minority Leader looked at the petition and came to a conclusion that it does not have probative value,” Ahiafor said.
