Petition to Nana Akufo-Addo by NAFOP members

Fri, 6 Sep 2013 Source: Joseph Otoo

On behalf of the entire members of Nana Addo for President (NAFOP), we greet you in the name of the almighty God and ask God to strengthen you in all your endeavours. Also, we would like to eulogize you for your commitment to justice, peace and democracy in Ghana and across the world. In fact, few political leaders across the globe would do what you did, by accepting the controversial verdict of the Supreme Court of the land. Nevertheless, we still believe that the wisdom God has bestowed on you must not be buried, but inculcate this wisdom into the people of Ghana and the political party which you belong to, thereby bringing to bare the development that we all want to see under your leadership.

This petition has come to light following calls from NAFOP members across the country, saying ‘‘without Nana, they are not going to vote in 2016’’. To quote what you said in your acceptance speech, ‘‘I am saddened by the verdict and I know that many of our supporters are saddened too. However, for the sake and love of our country, we must embark on a path that builds, rather than destroys, to deal with our disappointment’’.

What we have learnt from your statement is that, in order to embark on a path that builds rather than destroys to deal with our disappointment, the only way to achieve this, is for you to lead us once again so that members who suffered in 2012 elections to ensure that you occupy the higher office of the land will not be in vain.

There is propaganda going round that Nana is old and cannot campaign again! We are ready to debunk such propaganda, since the average ages of many African leaders such as Robert Mugabe of Zimbabwe, Paul Biya of Cameroon, Ellen Johnson Sirleaf of Liberia, Jacob Zuma of South Africa, Hifikepunye Pohamba of Namibia just to mention a few, are above 79.8. You should not be perturbed about your detractors, since we are behind you.

We as members cannot afford to miss the vision you have for Ghanaians. Moreover, elections held in 2008 and 2012 indicate clearly that the NPP would be voted into Office in 2016. Again, the perception that the NPP members are ‘‘violent’’ has been diffused by your acceptance of the verdict. We are therefore confident that by God on your side, 2016 would be our year of victory with you as our leader.

We thank you and hope that as you take time off the hurly burly of politics to rest and reflect, you will consider the cry of your people and heed to our petition.

Thank You!

Signed!
