Philanthropist offers scholarships to needy students

Mr Kojo Arkoh, a businessman at Asemase in the Abura-Asebu-Kwamankese District of the Central Region, has supported six needy girls in the community to pursue secondary school education.

The beneficiaries, all past students of A.M.E Zion Basic School at Asemase, received GH¢ 400 each as half payment of their SHS fees.

The A.M.E Zion Basic School was hitherto not presenting candidates for the BECE because there was no classroom block for the Junior High School (JHS) till a similar donation was made by Mr Arkoh, and a JHS block was built

Presenting the money to the parents of the beneficiaries, Mr. Arkoh said the gesture was in fulfillment of a promise he made to the girls before they wrote the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) this year, adding that the gesture was to help improve the falling standards of education in the area.

He said education was a potent tool for national development and every effort must be made to encourage the youth to study.

Mr. Arkoh appealed to the girls to study hard to enable them to achieve their academic ambitions.

Madam Abena Aframa, mother of one of the beneficiaries, thanked Mr Arkoh for the support and urged Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) as well as other well-endowed individuals from the area to emulate his effort.
