Philanthropist sponsors school block

A new classroom block built and furnished at a cost of GH¢150,000 for the Esaase Methodist Primary School in the Afigya-Kwabre District has been inaugurated at a ceremony.

The structure – an architectural showpiece, with tiled floors, sliding glass windows and classrooms fitted with ceiling fans, also has facilities for an office and washrooms.

It was financed by an educationist and citizen of the town, Mr Yaw Amankwaah.

Mr Kwaku Oppong-Kyekyeku Kaakyire, District Chief Executive (DCE), described the gesture as refreshing and a right step.

He said “this is something other wealthy individuals from this area need to emulate, to complement the effort of the assembly”.

The expectation, he said, was that everybody would accept to share the responsibility of helping “to make things happen” and make life better.

Mr Oppong-Kyekyeku spoke of plans to build a teachers’ bungalow in the town to provide decent accommodation for teachers posted to the school and said he had supplied the community with 50 bags of cement for the purpose.

A team of reporters from Ghana News Agency was in the area under STAR-Ghana’s sponsored media auditing and tracking of development projects, an initiative launched to put a spotlight on how government’s resources are helping to transform the lives of the people, particularly the rural population.

The goal is to aid transparency, promote accountability and good local governance.

Ms Christiana Abrafi Ampeh, District Director of Education, urged the teachers and pupils to be inspired by the selfless gesture of the benefactor, to raise academic performance of the school.

This, she said should re-energise them to work hard to make everybody in the district proud.

Nana Asare Bediako, Chief of Esaase, encouraged parents to enrol their children in school and provide them with their basic needs.
