On 15th November 2014 at the grounds of the Ghana Institute of Journalism, a congregation was held for 477 graduands who had satisfied requirement for diplomas and degrees in communication studies.
Among the lot were already known faces and voices who enrolled for the Weekend Top-Up or evening programmes for B. A. in Communication Studies.
Journalists who secured their degree on that day whom this writer noted include reps from Ghana Broadcasting Corporation, Ghanaweb, Metro Television, TV 3, Graphic Communications Group, eTV, Net 2 Television and Citi FM.
The newly certified journalists include reigning GJA journalists of the Mabel Aku Banasey of the Graphic Communications Group with colleagues Seth Kwame Bokpe , Russell Dela Ocloo and Zainab Issah.
Metropolitan Television had a graduate in newscaster Michael Oti whiles TV3’s Edward Kwebi held it down for the ‘Adesa We’ folks.
Adabraka based Citi FM had Umaru Sanda Amudu to thank for whiles Eddie Micah lifted the flag high for eTV with the Finder’s Daniel Oduro also securing his degree.
Mother outfit GBC could not be left out so Jacob Narh, Morris Ogbetey and Linda Dede Godji walked away with their certification as did Net 2 Television’s Parlos.
Dominant online platform Ghanaweb had had an entry in the shape of Michael Eli Dokosi and Naa Oyoe Quartey who secured their degrees.
It appears journalists are striving to attain higher education even as they serve as the eyes and ears of society, a departure from the practice where earlier journalists largely gathered experience on the field.
Enjoy as the light shines on the journalists who normally shine light on others.
