Physically challenged urge Ghanaians to embrace peace

The Ghana Society of the Physically Disabled (GSPD) has added its voice to the clarion call for peace before, during and after the November polls.

The group has charged the youth in particular not to sacrifice the peace Ghana is enjoying for the parochial ambition of any political party or individual.

At a press conference in Kumasi, the National President of the Society, Reverend John Mefful, noted that the physically challenged mostly suffer in any conflict situation.

“We the members of GSPD realize that in every conflict, persons with disabilities, children, and women and other vulnerable people suffer the most. We also realize that in most conflict, more people become disabled through gunshot wounds and limb amputations,” he stated.

Reverend Mefful observed that there appears to be tension in parts of the country regarding the electioneering, hence the need for every Ghanaian to preach and act in accordance with the laws of the country for peace.

“The stories of Sierra Leone, Ivory Coast and other African countries are too fresh in our minds. We simply cannot go down that route. We therefore call on every member of our society to impress our families on the need to maintain peace and security in our country”.

The GSPD is worried that life and property will be threatened by any action or inaction of a person or group of persons that leads to violence.

The group therefore wants peace to prevail.

Ghana will go to the polls to elect its President and Members of Parliament for the 7th consecutive time on November 7, 2016.
