Physician Assistants withdraw OPD and emergency services

The Ghana Physician Assistants Association has scaled up its ongoing strike in the second week of its industrial action against government.

The Association sequel to their roadmap vis a vis the above subject matter has withdrawn OPD and emergency services in the second week and likely to withdraw all services in the third week if government fails to meet their demands.

The action comes following the expiration of the three weeks ultimatum issued to government to resolve all outstanding issues relating to members’ salary discrepancies and conditions of service.

In a Press Statement issued by the leadership of the Association said:”The above directive has become necessary because the government represented by the Ministry of Health and its implementing Agencies such as the Ghana Health Service and the National Health Insurance Authority etc, have not shown any commitment to resolve the numerous health problems such as:

Salary Discrepancies among Cadres of the same Profession

Obsolete Job Description

Career Progression/Advancement/Specialization for Physician Assistants Condition of Service

Appointment of Physician Assistants as Heads of Health Centres and Sub-Districts

Accreditation status for College of Health, Kintampo

Internship Allowances

Financial Clearance for both Public and Private trained Physician Assistants NHIS Medicine list

The leadership in its statement is upset by the seeming lack of Interest on the part of government in resolving these issues, and hence asked its members to accordingly adhere to the 1st phase of its roadmap that will lead to several other actions to compel the government to act.
