Matthew Opoku Prempeh has admonished disqualified presidential aspirants to steadily engage the EC in their attempt to be reinstated rather than “picking unnecessary quarrels” with the EC boss.

“The media rant and issuing of court threats won’t solve the problem. I think the best way to get the EC to rescind its decision is to engage in dialogue rather than the shadow boxing,” the Member of Parliament for Manhyia South advised.

Mr Opoku Prempeh who is popularly referred to as Napo made the remarks on Metro TV during the station’s Good Morning Ghana show on Wednesday. While sympathizing with the disqualified candidates, Napo applauded the EC for taking time to scrutinize the forms, stressing “it would help sanitize the system” moving forward. “The affected people should deal with the matter moderately instead of running to court because the fact that you go to court does not mean they will win,” the legislator stressed.

The Chairperson of the EC, Mrs Charlotte Osei, on Monday October 10 disqualified 12 presidential aspirants and disclosed that those who forged signatures and other information while filling their nomination forms will face the law for flouting CI 94 of the EC’s regulations.

Some affected political parties have threatened to sue the court over their disqualification.
